Interior Design Jobs are Lucrative in the United States
As more and more American jobs are outsourced across seas, one constant and continuously growing industry stands strong against the tide. Design jobs, specifically interior design jobs, are growing in number and income yearly. Currently projected is an increase of interior designer positions of over 10 percent during the next decade, and these jobs are not exclusive to the nation's largest or densely populated cities.
So how much does an interior design get pay in the United States? According to the Department of Labor, the mean - or average - hourly wage of an interior designer is almost $20 an hour with a mean annual salary of about $40,500 a year. The designer's annual job salary is calculated based on full-time work 2,080 hours. These annual wages reflect the average pay of the average interior designers, but there are exceptions.
An interior design job's pay is based upon several important considerations. First, is the position in an urban or rural setting? The population saturation of the area does affect wages, but it is essential to understand that a less populated area contains a smaller number of interior designers, so there is less competition. The designer's pay scale is also based on region, as the coastal areas maintain higher salaries in all jobs in the US.
An interior designer's area of expertise also affects his or her paycheck. The more specialized the employment scope of the designer equals a greater demand and higher hourly rate for designing services. The actual industry that employees the designer also will dictate the money. Did you know the Federal government pays over 200 designers over $58,000 a year? Grocery design jobs maintain the highest average of $32 an hour.
A job and career in interior design does not guarantee riches and glory, but it does allow challenging and fulfilling opportunities to grow in a job where your own skills and creativity write your check each month. As the demand for designer positions increases the national average will also increase, but the consistent quality and standard of this fascinating occupation will remain set at the highest they have always been.
